With reference to the letter from this

Department of the 2nd Jeptember,1924, regarding the

remuneration of the Chief Justice of Hong Kong for

acting as appeal Judge at 3hunghai, I am directed by

.0.10 Sept. Mr Secretary Amery to transmit to you, to be laid

before the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, the

accompanying copy of a letter which has been received

from the Foreign Office reporting that instructions

have been given by Their Lordships for the termination

of the present arrangements for the payment of the

remuneration, the intention being that such remunera-

tion should in future be paid to the Chief Justice

from Inverial funds.

2. The Secretary of State proposes to refer the

matter to the Governor of Hong Kong for his observa-

tions, but, before doing so, he would be obliged if
